Top Chef dons whites in Germany

The US original version of Top Chef on Bravo

German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 has picked up the rights to adapt NBCUniversal’s Top Chef format locally.

The deal is distributor NBCUniversal International’s 23rd for the competitive cooking format and will see a six-part local version air next summer with chef Eckart Witzigmann as head judge.

The series will be produced by RedSeven Entertainment and production will begin in spring.

Top Chef pits aspiring chefs against each other in an elimination battle. Each week, the chefs undertake a series of challenges that test not only their cooking prowess but also their teamwork and stress endurance.

Originally produced by Magical Elves, the Emmy-winning series first aired in 2006 on Bravo in the US, where it is currently in its 16th season.

A third season of the show is set to air this month on MBC across the Middle East, while French broadcaster M6 will celebrate the 10th season of the show next year. Top chef has also been produced in Spain, Italy, Mexico, Canada and Vietnam.
