Toonami adds to Asian launch

Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) has backed up the imminent launch of its Toonami channel in Asia with further carriage deals in the Philippines and Cambodia.

The agreements are with Cable Boss and Sky Cable in the Philippines and Cambodia’s PPCTV. They add to earlier deals putting the net on StarHub in Singapore; Sansuk Network in Thailand; First Media, Indovision, Aora TV and Telkomvision in Indonesia; and Hong Kong’s Cable TV and Now TV.

The channel arrives on these platforms, and others in Vietnam and Taiwan, on December 1. The channel will feature animated series including Young Justice, Batman: The Brave & the Bold and Dragon Ball Z.

“Upon launch, Toonami will have carriage deals in 10 markets with 18 separate carriers. And obviously our distribution team will be looking to expand that post-launch,” a spokesman for TBS Asia Pacific told C21.

Turner’s Asia-Pacific channel portfolio already comprises Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Pogo and Cartoonito, also set for its debut in Asia on December 1. Turner was initially expected to launch Toonami and Cartoonito next year but brought forward the dates.
