Titanic doc sales around the world

The Titanic departing Southampton on April 10, 1912

Broadcasters including US cablenet History and the UK’s Channel 4 have picked up a French feature documentary on the Titanic.

European producer and distributor Off The Fence (OTF) is handling distribution of Titanic: Into the Heart of the Wreck (1×90’), directed by Thomas Risch.

OTF has also sealed deals with pubcasters SBS (Australia) and RTS (Switzerland), Spanish SVoD service Movistar+ and Discovery in Spain.

The documentary, from French prodco Bleu Kobalt, covers the exploration of the shipwreck from its discovery in 1985 up to the present day. It features contributions from James Cameron, the director of the Oscar-winning 1997 film Titanic who is also a pioneer of deep-sea exploration.

Titanic: Into the Heart of the Wreck is a collaboration between pubcaster France Télévisions and its German counterpart ZDF’s factual strand Terra X. The project is part of the Global Doc 2019 initiative, which aims to bring together networks and producers to make large-scale documentaries.

It debuted on France TV in December before airing on Terra X on January 1.

Leila Monks, OTF’s head of commissioning, secured History as the US partner and executive produced the US/international version of the doc alongside Jasmin Proios Gammon.
