Tiny Giants, Anderson to reboot Terrahawks

Thunderbirds producer Anderson Entertainment has teamed up with Budapest- and LA-based production company Tiny Giants to relaunch popular 1980s children’s sci-fi series Terrahawks.

Zelda from the original Terrahawks

The original 1983 show was created by Gerry Anderson and Christopher Burr using puppets. It followed main character Kate Kestrel as she defended Earth from an alien invasion, led by Zelda, while learning about her family’s past.

The reboot, Kate Kestrel & the Terrahawks, will be a 2D and 3D animation hybrid, taking styles from western and anime animation.

It is being executively produced by Jamie Anderson and Stu Gamble. Mike Penketh, Vicky Kjaer Jensen and Mark Hoffmeier are collectively producing the show, with Hoffmeier also acting as showrunner.

Anderson Entertainment is working with Star Wars artist and illustrator JAKe throughout early redevelopment, and is now teaming up with Tiny Giants to prepare the show for pitching to broadcasters and SVoDs. JAKe will continue in a senior creative role.

The new series will also see original Terrahawks designer and FX supervisor Steve Begg returning to reimagine the Terrahawks vehicles.

Stu Gamble, CEO and founder of Tiny Giants, said: “When I was a kid, Zelda scared the living daylights out of me. We can’t wait to work with the legacy and heritage of the world co-created by Gerry Anderson in bringing Terrahawks to a brand new audience with deep, rich characters and world building that can pull you in and not let you go.”
