Tinopolis promotes Passion MD

UK production group Tinopolis has promoted the MD of its sales arm, Passion Distribution, to a role that will also make him responsible for the group’s factual offerings.

Nick Rees

Nick Rees has been named chief operating officer of Tinopolis Factual and Distribution, expanding his existing role by adding the Tinopolis factual group to his responsibilities.

He will oversee all commercial aspects of the business, working across commercial deals, maximising the value of IP and ensuring collaboration between production and distribution across the group.

Rees has been MD of Passion Distribution since 2012, responsible for all financial and operational activities as well as developing investment opportunities and programme-funding models.

Prior to Passion, he was senior VP of finance for North America for HIT Entertainment.

The promotion follows the departure of Naomi Carter, the previous COO of Tinopolis factual, to BBC Studios in May.

Arwel Rees, Tinopolis Group’s CEO, described Rees as “an integral member of the team at Passion, instrumental in growing profit, developing new income streams and investment initiatives.”

Rees said: “It’s been extremely fulfilling being part of the success of Passion and I look forward to continuing that relationship as well as taking on a new challenge within the factual group.”

The Tinopolis Group, which acquired Passion in 2012, includes production companies Sunset+Vine, Mentorn Media, Firecracker, Pioneer, Tinopolis Cymru and Thunderclap Media. It is also home to drama producers Daybreak Pictures and Fiction Factory, as well as A Smith & Co and Magical Elves in the US.

Earlier this year, the company appointed Chris Brogden, the chief creative officer from fellow UK prodco Studio Ramsay, as its director of content.
