Tiger Woods drama teed up at Wheelhouse

Former ITV America CEO Brent Montgomery’s Wheelhouse Entertainment (WHE) is preparing a drama about golfer Tiger Woods after linking up with journalist and producer Jeff Benedict.

WHE, founded by Montgomery last year, has formed a joint venture to work with Benedict to develop scripted and unscripted film and TV projects, based on his IP including the recently published biography Tiger Woods.

Published in 2018 and co-authored with journalist Armen Keteyian, the Woods bio will be adapted as a limited scripted series and will be the first project taken to market by Wheelhouse and Benedict.

Benedict has also written sports titles including The System: The Glory & Scandal of Big-Time College Football, also co-authored with Keteyian, and QB: My Life Behind the Spiral, written for and with former NFL star Steve Young.

Other titles include exposé Little Pink House, made into a 2018 feature film starring Catherine Keener and Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Poisoned, chronicling an E. coli outbreak.

Montgomery said: “IP is becoming more important than ever, and to partner with a writer of Jeff’s calibre – someone who nails perfectly the experience and emotion behind epic people and their stories – is a huge win for Wheelhouse.

“It’s an enormously rich pool from which to create exciting projects in and around sports and other high-intensity environments.”

Benedict described the opportunity to partner with WHE as “a writer’s dream” and said he was “eager to see where this new story and professional chapter takes us both.”

Wheelhouse teamed up with chatshow host Jimmy Kimmel late last year on a new production venture and has also added senior execs to its ranks, including former A+E Networks veteran Sean Cohan.
