Theroux returns to BBC2

The BBC has commissioned a slew of factual content for BBC1, BBC2 and BBC3, including a return to the public broadcaster for Louis Theroux with two films on alcohol addiction and brain injury.

Drinking To Oblivion sees Theroux spend time in a London hospital, immersing himself in the lives of patients in the grip of alcohol addiction and the medical staff trying to cure them.

Meanwhile Brain Injury (working title) features Theroux meeting some of the one million people in the UK dealing with the long-term effects of a brain injury.

Both films are being made for BBC2 by BBC Documentaries Production with Aysha Rafaele the executive producer and Danny Horan the commissioning editor.

BBC3 has also greenlit two factual projects following its move online earlier this month.

Chasing Dad (1×45’) from Rare Day follows a father’s heroin addiction from his son’s perspective while The Last Days of Legal Highs (1×45’) from Pulse Films focuses on two ‘Head Shops’ in Portsmouth doing a busy trade in legal drug dealing before a change in the law prevents the sale of untested substances in April.

BBC3 controller Damian Kavanagh said his service “is here to inform, educate and entertain young people and cover issues that matter to them. Chasing Dad and Legal Highs will stimulate debate about how drugs affect young people today, from two very different perspectives.”

Finally BBC1 has ordered a further 6×60’ run of its healthy food series Eat Well For Less from RDF Television West.
