The Voice heard around the world

The Voice on UK broadcaster ITV

Argentinian broadcaster Telefe has renewed Dutch firm Talpa Media’s singing format The Voice for a new season, while Lithuania’s LNK has ordered a new version of The Voice Kids.

Viacom-owned Telefe has opted for another run of La Voz Argentina after its successful return to the country earlier this year following a six-year hiatus. The local version, which is produced in-house by Telefe, is expected to return to screens in late 2019.

Telefe’s renewal follows on from news that The Voice will also return to France, Spain, Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, French Canada, Norway, Finland and Belgium (Flanders and Wallonia).

Elsewhere, Lithuanian broadcaster LNK has commissioned a local version of spin-off format The Voice Kids. The show sees children and young teenagers sing to convince four judges from the world of music to choose them to coach based purely on their voices.

New seasons of the spin-off are expected next year in France, Spain, Brazil, Indonesia, Colombia and Albania.

Talpa has seen continued success with The Voice since the first iteration of the flagship show aired in the Netherlands in 2010. Star India recently agreed a multi-season, multi-year deal with the Dutch media giant for The Voice and The Voice Kids, while the latter format is heading to the US for the first time with Universal Kids.

Talpa’s most recent addition to the franchise, The Voice Senior, has also begun to carve out a place in the industry since it was unveiled in 2017. Thai broadcaster PPTV has agreed a deal to develop a version.
