The Orville S3 to land on Hulu exclusively

The Orville

Seth MacFarlane’s sci-fi TV show The Orville will disappear from US broadcast network Fox and become available exclusively on streaming service Hulu for its third season.

MacFarlane announced the move at San Diego Comic Con, explaining the third season will air exclusively on Hulu to accommodate its growing production ambitions.

The Family Guy and American Dad creator said The Orville is moving from its home at Fox because he needed more time to put the third season of the show together. Fox had originally renewed the show in May.

The Orville, a one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future, will now air as a Hulu Original in late 2020. The streamer had previously held second-window rights to the series.

“As the show has evolved and become more ambitious production-wise, I determined that I would not be able to deliver episodes until 2020, which would be challenging for the network,” MacFarlane said.

The Mouse House has had full control of Hulu since May. It entered into a deal with Comcast that will force it to sell its 33% share in the streaming service to Disney from January 2024. Disney also has full control of 21st Century Fox, which produces The Orville alongside Fuzzy Door Productions.
