The Governator is terminated

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s superhero cartoon series The Governator has been terminated.

The former governor of California announced plans for the 52-episode programme at MipTV in Cannes in April.

It was to be produced by Los Angeles-based A Squared Entertainment (A2), with international distribution rights picked up by Germany’s Your Family Entertainment.

But since leaving office earlier this year, Schwarzenegger’s personal life has been shrouded in turmoil, first when he split from his wife of 25 years, Maria Shriver.

It then emerged he fathered a secret love child with one of his former housekeepers.

The cartoon’s premise imagined the former Terminator and True Lies star as a crime fighting superhero who kept his alter-ego hidden from his wife and kids.

On Wednesday, A2, which was to produce The Governator, stood by the series and said it is still “going forward.”

However, Schwarzenegger, 63, has since put all acting roles on hold and A2 said yesterday they have now chosen not to proceed with the project.

A representative told celebrity website TMZ: “In light of recent events, A Squared Entertainment, POW, Stan Lee Comics, and Archie Comics, have chosen to not go forward with the Governator project.”

Hours earlier, Patrick Knapp, the actor-turned-politician’s entertainment lawyer, said: “Governor Schwarzenegger is focusing on personal matters and is not willing to commit to any production schedules or timelines. We will resume discussions when Governor Schwarzenegger decides.”

It is not yet known whether the project will be picked up again in the future. A2 representatives were unavailable for further comment at press time.
