The Durrells return to ITV

Hit ITV series The Durrells is filmed in Corfu

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has commissioned a fourth season of popular drama The Durrells, which is based on a book trilogy by Gerard Durrell.

Again written by Simon Nye, the fourth run will comprise six episodes. It is produced by London-based drama indie Sid Gentle Films, with Christopher Hall (Critical, Dracula) returning as series producer.

Executive producers on the project are Sid Gentle CEO Sally Woodward Gentle and MD Lee Morris, along with Nye and star Keeley Hawes, who plays matriarch Louisa Durrell.

Conservationist and author Durrell’s book trilogy tells the story of his family’s time on the Greek island of Corfu during the 1930s.

The Durrells launched in 2016 and is one of ITV’s highest-rating dramas. The first episode of the third season drew a consolidated 6.7 million viewers, representing a 26% audience share. Filming on season four will take place in Corfu later this year.
