Tencent joins BBC’s Dynasties

Dynasties follows five of the world’s most endangered animals

MIPCOM: Chinese streamer Tencent has joined BBC Studios’ latest natural history epic, Dynasties, as a coproducer and has unveiled a BBC Earth fan community.

Tencent and the BBC have coproduced natural history shows twice before, partnering on Blue Planet II last year and Planet Earth II in 2016.

Presented by Sir David Attenborough, Dynasties has been filmed around the world over the past four years, exploring the lives of some of the world’s most endangered animals.

Tencent’s v.qq.com platform in China will air the show simultaneously with its UK telecast. The deal is part of a larger multi-year agreement between BBC Studios (BBCS) and the streamer that will see the two parties work together to develop and grow BBC Earth Tribe, a Chinese online community for people passionate about natural history and science.

The portal will house more than 650 hours of BBCS’s natural history and documentary programmes, such as Dynasties and Rituals, and will also deliver unprecedented access to the series’ creators via Q&As with producers both online and at on-ground events.

Shortened episodes of the BBC’s natural history programmes, 360-degree videos, live-streamed interviews and live streams directly from production locations will also become available. The service is set to go live later today.

Tencent signed a three-year coproduction and development deal with the BBC earlier this year as part of a wider agreement with the Department for International Trade in the UK.
