Telia IPTV to carry Viasat channels

Viasat Broadcasting, part of European media conglomerate Modern Times Group (MTG), is making its TV channels available via the IPTV service operated by Swedish telco Telia.

The deal, which comes into effect from the beginning of next month, spans Viasat’s pay-TV and free channels including TV3, TV6, TV8 and ZTV, which together already claim a third of Sweden’s commercial TV market.

Telia’s Digital TV customers, of which there are some 300,000, representing around 90% of the country’s IPTV market, will be able to access a total of 17 Viasat channels, split into six different bouquets.

“Telia has built a scale and successful pay-TV business in the IPTV environment and we are delighted to be able to access and sell our services to this large and growing customer base, which is typically not addressed by our DTH satellite service,” said MTG president and CEO Hans-Holger Albrecht.
