Telemundo’s Silberwasser steps down

Industry veteran Luis Silberwasser is leaving NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises after four years as president of US Hispanic broadcaster Telemundo Networks.

The former Discovery exec will stay with the company until the beginning of October to oversee a transition.

He joined the broadcaster in 2014 after his exit from Discovery Networks International and oversaw a revamp of its programme strategy and network position.

Silberwasser said he was leaving to pursue “new content making adventures,” adding: “I’m extremely proud of what we have accomplished at Telemundo and the important role of this organisation in serving the Latino community across America. Today, Telemundo is the clear leader, not only in viewership, but as the network that will take content risks and breaks stereotypes.”

Cesar Conde, chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises and NBCUniversal International Group, said: “Luis helped propel our rise as the definitive media and entertainment brand for today’s Hispanic consumer. He has made an indelible mark on our company at a time of great transformation.”

The news comes as NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises also announces promotions for four execs as part of a reshuffle of its senior leadership team in Miami.

Ronald Day, who only returned to the company in April, has been upped to executive VP of entertainment for Telemundo Networks. He will now be responsible for programming, talent and promotions for primetime, daytime and specials for Telemundo and Universo networks.

Beau Ferrari has become executive VP of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, overseeing operations, financial performance and corporate strategy.

Peter Blacker has been named executive VP of revenue, strategy and innovation, tasked with finding new revenue streams across linear and digital platforms. Monica Gil, meanwhile, has been upped to executive VP and chief marketing officer.
