Telemundo, TVN extend content alliance

NATPE: US Hispanic broadcaster Telemundo Media has picked up US rights to all Chilean public broadcaster TVN’s telenovela scripts.

The deal between the two broadcasters, announced on the first day of the Natpe programme market in Miami, also covers rights to TVN scripts in Mexico.

Telemundo now has access to TVN’s telenovela scripts to be developed and produced by Telemundo Studios as original programming in Mexico and the US. The NBCUniversal-owned US channel has already seen success adapting TVN scripts, including Donde Está Elisa?, Alguien Te Mira and La Casa de al Lado.

Furthermore, Telemundo International has renewed its global representation deal with its long-standing Chilean content partner for another five years. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Telemundo International president Marcos Santana said the pact “is key to Telemundo Media, as it provides an excellent source of original and innovative stories for our catalogue and strengthens the network’s original programming in the US.”

“TVN is, by far, the largest producer of telenovelas in Chile and one of the largest in Latin America,” added Mauro Valdés, executive director of TVN. “Telemundo’s interest in our original telenovela scripts shows great confidence in the quality of our productions.”
