Telemundo gets creative with musical.ly

NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises has partnered with social media app musical.ly on an entertainment and pop culture show aimed at teens.

The Cheese marks the first digital show to be launched as part of the partnership between the two companies and will premiere on the musical.ly app on March 24.

The eight-episode weekly show is aiming to deliver conversations centred on Hispanic and general market pop culture stories of the day.

The show will be hosted by musical.ly “influencer” Jessica Flores and Telemundo digital host Christian Acosta. Episodes will premiere every Saturday exclusively on the musical.ly homepage. The following day, users will be able to access the show on Telemundo’s musical.ly page and Telemundo’s digital platforms.

The show will consist of three main segments: Top Three Stories of the Week, Rising Hispanic Stars and What Would Abuela Say?, a segment where the hosts will ask musical.ly followers ‘What would your grandmother say?’ about news stories.

It will be followed by other programmes targeting Hispanic members of Generation Z, which Telemundo describes as the post-millennial, predominantly bilingual, tech-native generation.

Musical.ly is also set to launch a sports show titled On the Ball (working title) in the lead up to the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia, following the lives of the world’s most famous and highest paid soccer players.

Both shows will be created and executive produced by Fluency+, Telemundo’s multi-platform production studio covering topics such as entertainment, lifestyle, politics and sports.
