TCB secures European sales

World’s Greatest Palaces was originally produced for Yesterday

UK-based TCB Media Rights has secured a raft of factual programme sales in France and Germany and has also landed distribution rights to a new three-parter from Channel 4 and ITN.

Kew Media Group-owned TCB has reported strong demand for its titles from French and German broadcasters in the run-up to Sunny Side of the Doc in La Rochelle, France this week.

RMC Découverte has pre-bought The Crusaders (3×60’), produced by Argonon-owned Like A Shot Entertainment, a deal that follows TCB and RMC’s earlier partnership on Egypt’s Unexplained Files (10×60’).

Canal+’s Planete+ has pre-bought World’s Greatest Palaces (10×60’), originally produced for UKTV factual channel Yesterday. The Woodcut Media series investigates the history of some of the world’s biggest and most ambitious palaces.

Windfall Films’ Mythical Beasts (10×60’), meanwhile, has been picked up by TF1’s Histoire channel as part of a 25-hour history package. The volume deal also includes Wag TV’s Secrets of the Magna Carta (2×60’), the third season of Like A Shot’s Medieval Dead (7×60’) and Symettrica’s Wartime Crime (6×60’), produced for UKTV and Discovery US.

In Germany, pubcaster ZDF has also bought two 10×60’ series – Mythical Beasts and Underground Worlds (Phoenix TV for UKTV) – while ProSieben has taken another Windfall show, Train Truckers (10×60’), originally produced for UKTV.

“The growing importance of key European broadcasters in forming collaborative commissioning networks makes attendance at Sunny Side of the Doc a key TCB priority,” said Simona Argenti, senior sales manager at TCB. “It’s an interesting market from both a creative and commercial perspective.”

In related news, TCB has bagged distribution rights to London’s Great Bridges: Lighting the Thames (3×60’), a series from ITN Productions for Channel 4. It will follow the ambitious £45m (US$57.35m) public art project titled Illuminated River.

The three-part series was commissioned by Lizi Wootton and Sean Doyle at Channel 4. Andy Dunn and Will Smith are executive producers for ITN Productions, with Matt Reid as series producer. It will air on C4 later in the summer.
