Syria drama, artist comedy lead Hulu slate

Find Me in Paris is returning for a third season

US streaming service Hulu has unveiled its original programming slate for this autumn, including a project coproduced by Arte France and distributed by Fremantle.

Premiering on the Disney-owned SVoD platform on November 18, No Man’s Land will examine the Syrian civil war through the eyes of Antoine, a young Frenchman searching for his estranged, presumed-dead sister.

While unravelling the mystery, Antoine ends up joining forces with a unit of Kurdish female fighters as he travels with them in Isis-occupied territory.

Co-created by Ron Leshem (Euphoria), Maria Feldman (False Flag), Eitan Mansuri (When Heroes Fly) and Amit Cohen (False Flag), No Man’s Land is written by Cohen and Leshem in collaboration with Xabi Molia (Commes Des Rois).

It is produced by Maria Feldman for Masha Productions; Eitan Mansuri and Jonathan Doweck for Spiro Films; Caroline Benjo, Simon Arnal and Carole Scotta for Haut et Court TV; and Christian Vesper for Fremantle. Arte France and Versus Production are coproducing the show.

The cast includes Félix Moati, Mélanie Thierry and James Purefoy alongside Souheila Yacoub, Joe Ben Ayed, James Floyd, Dean Ridge, Julia Faure, François Caron and Céline Samie.

Elsewhere on Hulu’s slate is Woke, which will debut on September 9 and is inspired by the life and work of artist Keith Knight.

The comedy series, a copro between ABC Studios and Sony Pictures Television, takes an absurd look at identity and culture as it follows an African-American cartoonist finally on the verge of mainstream success when an unexpected incident changes everything.

Other scripted launches this fall include season two of comedy Pen15, from Awesomeness; season one of Monsterland, produced by Annapurna Television; and season one of Helstrom, coproduced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios, part of Disney Television Studios.

In unscripted, Hulu will launch Eater’s Guide to the World, in which narrator Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live) goes on a quest to find the most unexpected places to score a fantastic meal, while drinking and dining with the locals along the way. Vox Media Studios is producing.

Documentary I Am Greta, meanwhile, will launch on November 13. Focusing on young environmental activist Greta Thunberg, it is directed by Nathan Grossman and produced by Cecilia Nessen and Fredrik Heinig through B-Reel Films.

For kids and teen audiences, the third season of Find Me in Paris, from Cottonwood Media, Opéra National de Paris, ZDF and ZDF Enterprises, arrives on August 21, while six episodes of Madagascar: A Little Wild, the latest instalment in the Madagascar franchise, will debut on September 7.

The Mighty Ones, meanwhile, about a group of creatures who live in an unkempt backyard belonging to a trio of equally unkempt humans whom they mistake for gods, will launch on November 9.

The first season of Animaniacs, featuring classic characters such as Yakko, Wakko, Dot, Pinky and the Brain and produced by Amblin Entertainment in association with Warner Bros Animation, will debut on November 20.

Steven Spielberg returns as executive producer of the series, with Sam Register, president of Warner Bros Animation and Warner Digital Series, and Amblin Television co-presidents Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank also serving as executive producers.

Earlier this month, Hulu revealed its latest slate of original programming, including a comedy starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez.
