Superprod, Red Monk prep tween sitcom

France’s Superprod and its recently acquired Italian company Red Monk Studio have teamed with Hannah Montana creator Michael Poryes for a new tween sitcom.

Home Sweet Rome will look to combine US and European sensibilities, with the producers tapping Doug Schwalbe, a former senior VP of coproduction at DreamWorks and HBO, to executive produce.

Shot on location in Rome, the series follows a young American girl whose life takes an extraordinary turn when she moves to the Italy capital with her father.

Created by Poryes (That’s So Raven), it will be developed with Schwalbe and Paris-based Superprod Group alongside Milan-based Red Monk, which Superprod acquired earlier this month.

Superights, the international sales subsidiary of Superprod Group focusing on kids’ and family programming, will distribute the half-hour series.

Poryes said: “A 13-year-old American girl having to move to this iconic city and adjust to new friends, new family, new culture and a whole new way of living life, while maintaining old friends through social media, gives me the fun chance to explore her unique situation while always grounding everything she experiences in the universal emotional truths of being a young teen.”
