Super RTL picks up Xilam toons

Mr Magoo

French studio Xilam Animation has agreed a deal with German broadcaster Super RTL for three of its forthcoming animated properties.

Super RTL has acquired the rights to 2D series Mr Magoo, Moka and the third season of Zig & Sharko (all 78×7’).

Based on the classic cartoon of the same name, Mr Magoo follows the accident-prone eponymous character who first hit screens nearly 70 years ago. Commissioned by France Télévisions, Cartoon Network Asia and K2 in Italy, the series will be landing around spring 2019.

Moka, a successful pitch at last year’s Cartoon Forum, centres on a young crocodile prince and his brave rhino sidekick, who is constantly trying to save him from trouble. The series will be delivered in fall 2019.

Non-dialogue comedy Zig & Sharko has already been a stalwart on Super RTL, with the broadcaster currently airing the first two seasons. The third run will continue to follow the attempts of a hungry hyena to chomp into a carefree mermaid protected by a muscle-bound shark.

The deal comes a couple of months after Xilam procured €22.3m (US$26m) of new capital by selling new shares in the company to private investors.
