Super Channel picks up Harlots

MIPTV: Canadian pay TV network Super Channel has picked up ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVSGE)’s drama Harlots as part of a scripted package.

Harlots airs on ITV Encore in the UK and on Hulu in the US

Harlots (8×60′)is produced by UK-based Monumental Pictures and is described as “a powerful family drama” that will be based on the stories of real women, one of whom was a mother and brothel owner.

Writer Moira Buffini (Jane Eyre, Tamara Drewe) and Alison Newman created the show, which marked the first commission for Monumental. It airs on ITV Encore in the UK and streams exclusively in the US as part of the Hulu Originals slate.

Super Channel will air the show exclusively in Canada from May and has also acquired ITV Studios dramas Tutankhamun (4×60′) and Dark Heart (1×120′), with both series also due to premiere this summer.

Craig Bohland, VP of sales in Canada for ITVSGE, said: “British drama has always resonated with Canadian viewers and Harlots has all the hallmarks of the very best British storytelling.”

Melissa Kajpust, director of programming for international distributors and Canadian pre-sales for Super Channel, added that the “strong female characters, unique premise and incredible storytelling” would entice viewers.
