Super Channel kicks off eSports net

Super Channel in Canada has launched a channel focusing on eSports, which it claims is the first 24-hour network of its kind in North America.

Ginx eSports TV Canada officially launched in Canada last night with a slate of live eSports events, news and gaming lifestyle programming.

The channel, which replaced Super Channel’s SC4, is available to Super Channel subscribers as part of their existing package.

Michiel Bakker, Ginx eSports TV’s CEO, said: “eSports has experienced massive organic online growth and this partnership is about extending that growth into television.

“As well as covering the big international events, we aim to work with Canadian eSports organisations to report on national events and to showcase the best on our fast-growing international network of over 40 million homes worldwide.”

In related news Super has acquired the second season of Sky’s Arctic thriller Fortitude. The 10×60′ show, sold by Sky Vision, will make its Canadian broadcast premiere on Monday, June 12 at 21.00ET. Each episode will also be available on Super On Demand the day following its weekly linear broadcast.
Fortitude is produced by Fifty Fathoms, created and written by Simon Donald (Beautiful Creatures) who executive produces with Faye Dorn and Patrick Spence.
