Sundance Now hears Synchronicity’s Cry

The Cry stars Victoria’s Jenna Coleman

US SVoD service Sundance Now has pre-bought forthcoming drama The Cry, a UK and Australia coproduction, from distributor DRG.

AMC Networks-owned Sundance Now has taken exclusive US rights to the drama, which is due to premiere on UK and Australian pubcasters BBC1 and the ABC respectively, in this fall.

Based on Australian author Helen FitzGerald’s novel of the same name, The Cry is a psychological thriller focusing on new parents who find themselves at the centre of a horrific tragedy.

The series, adapted by Jacquelin Perske (The Secret Life of Us), is being coproduced by UK prodco Synchronicity Films and ABC, in association with Creative Scotland, December Media, Film Victoria and Sunbird Media. The executive producers are Synchronicity’s Claire Mundell and the BBC’s Gaynor Holmes and Elizabeth Kilgarriff.

DRG executive VP of sales Elin Thomas, who concluded the deal with Sundance Now, said: “Synchronicity’s vision for the book and high-profile lead cast allowed us to bring ABC in as a coproduction partner early on, and these same factors are generating extensive pre-sale conversations.”
