Sundance Now adopts Motherland

Delightful Industries and Merman’s Motherland aired on BBC2

AMC Networks has picked up the first season of a comedy penned by writer and actress Sharon Horgan for its Sundance Now streaming service in the US.

Motherland debuted on BBC2 in the UK in 2017 and was coproduced with Twofour Group-owned Delightful Industries and Merman, the production company founded in 2014 by Horgan and Clelia Mountford.

The series explores the competitive and unromantic sides of parenting, with its first-season order following a one-off episode that aired in 2016.

It is written by Horgan (Catastrophe), Graham Linehan (Father Ted), Helen Linehan and Holly Walsh (Dead Boss) and will be available exclusively in the US on Sundance Now from May 10.

US studio Lionsgate co-financed the show and picked up international distribution rights to the series last year, as revealed by C21.
