STV strikes BBC Scotland double

UK pubcaster the BBC has ordered two docuseries ahead of the launch of its dedicated TV channel for Scotland next month.

David Mortimer

Yes/No – Inside the Indyref (3×60’) offers insight into the opposing campaigns of Scotland’s 2014 independence referendum and is being produced for BBC Scotland by STV Productions.

The same company, which is the production arm of Scottish broadcaster STV, is behind observational documentary Inside Central Station (6×60’), which gives viewers a glimpse of the inner workings of Glasgow’s Central Station, the busiest in Scotland. Transmission details for both series are yet to be revealed.

David Harron is BBC Scotland’s executive producer for both shows, while the executive producer for STV Productions is Michael McAvoy.

David Mortimer, who was named MD of STV Productions last year, said the shows would “bring fascinating insights” for viewers of BBC Scotland, which is launching on Sunday February 24.

Mortimer’s appointment was part of STV’s three-year strategy for creative and digital growth that will see the business invest £15m (US$19.6m) in new original content and digital.

STV Productions also overhauled its management structure by promoting Claire Armspach to head of drama development, while the broadcaster operation axed one of its channels, revamped its on-demand service and cut 59 jobs after agreeing a deal to sell part of its operation and focus on digital.
