Studiocanal series to go on Topic

Vernon Subutex is adapted from the book by Virginie Despentes

MIPCOM: Fledgling SVoD platform Topic has picked up two dramas from Studiocanal for its subscribers in the US and Canada.

French series Vernon Subutext and Danish comedy-drama Pros & Cons will both be available when Topic launches on November 21.

Ryan Chanatry, general manager of Topic, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with Studiocanal to acquire the North American SVoD rights to Vernon Subutex and Pros & Cons and to premiere these powerful dramas to audiences in the US and Canada.”

Vernon Subutext (9×30’) tells the story of an unemployed former record shop owner. When he is evicted, Vernon goes to stay with rocker Alex Bleach, who shortly afterwards dies of an overdose. He leaves behind three mysterious video tapes, which soon make Vernon the most wanted man in Paris.

Starring Romain Duris and co-written and directed by Cathy Verney, it is produced by Tetra Media Fiction and 27.11 Production for French pay TV operator Canal+.

Pros & Cons, originally commissioned by Viaplay and TV3, stars Lars Rathe and Lena Maria Christensen as former con artists who decide to escape the boredom of their respectable lives in suburbia by setting up one final con. It is produced by SAM Productions.
