The deal sees Studio100 take a 68% stake in M4E, which owns a library of almost 2,300 episodes of children’s and family programming and represents internationally.

M4E, which was founded in 2003, also owns brands including Lizzie McGuire, Tip the Mouse, Wissper and Miffy.

Studio100 is headquartered in Schelle, Belgium, and has branches in the Netherlands and Germany as well as animation studios in France and Australia. It also operates six theme parks in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.

The founding and principal shareholders of M4E, Hans Ulrich Stoef, Michael Büttner, Oliver Jansen and Cees Wessels, have agreed to sell all of their shares to Studio100.

The transaction remains subject to several conditions, including the approval of the German Federal Cartel Office. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

M4E will continue to invest in new content and exploit properties internationally following the deal, the companies said.

“The international markets are in a huge upheaval and consolidation phase on every level, taking into account the ongoing digitalisation,” said Hans Ulrich Stoef, who will continue as CEO of M4E.

“The synergies that are created by this acquisition will pay off in the years ahead,” added Hans Bourlon, CEO of Studio100.
