Stone’s Putin doc goes global

Oliver Stone’s four-part documentary series The Putin Interviews has been acquired by international broadcasters, following deals with IM Global Television.

The series, which debuted stateside earlier this month on cablenet Showtime, has been licensed by National Geographic Channels for the Netherlands, Belgium, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Other licensees include Moviestar+ in Spain, SBS in Australia, TVNZ on Demand in New Zealand, DR in Denmark, Nelonen in Finland, RUV in Iceland, ITI Neovision in Poland, FTV Prima in Czech Republic, Hot8 in Israel and BluTV in Turkey.

These deals come soon after the show’s producers inked sales to Sky Atlantic in the UK and Germany, and Channel One in Russia. Eagle Pictures in Italy also sold the show to Rai TV and Folamour Pictures in France licensed rights to France 3 for broadcast this week.

The series is produced by Fernando Sulichin (The Untold History of the United States, South of the Border, Snowden, Malcolm X), New Element Media and Rob Wilson.

“This is a one-of-a-kind series with global relevance from one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and exactly the type of project that we strive to deliver to our global channel and platform partners,” said IM Global Television’s CEO Stuart Ford and president of international distribution and coproductions Eli Shibley.
