Steve Harvey takes Family Feud to Africa

Family Feud host Steve Harvey has bought the rights to remake the gameshow in South Africa and Ghana from production and distribution giant Fremantle.

Harvey himself will front the African version of the show after securing the rights via his company, Steve Harvey Global. Fremantle’s local production partner in the region, Rapid Blue, will produce.

Family Feud pits two families against each other as they attempt to name the most popular responses to survey questions. It is one of TV’s longest-running and highest-rated gameshows. The African version will begin production in Johannesburg in Q4 this year and will air in Q2 next year.

The gameshow launched in the US in 1976 and Fremantle has now placed it in more than 70 international markets. Harvey started hosting the syndicated gameshow in the US in 2010 and Family Feud Africa will become the first international version he has fronted.

“Bringing Family Feud to Africa has long been a dream of mine,” Harvey said. “I believe Family Feud will become a household name for local South African and Ghanaian families.”

Duncan Irvine, CEO of Rapid Blue, added: “Family is the cornerstone of life in South Africa and Ghana and we are confident that we will see some wonderful families take part and that both seasons will resonate well with audiences here.”
