StarzPlay heads out on Doom Patrol

StarzPlay, the streaming service from US cablenet Starz, has acquired the exclusive rights to forthcoming DC Superhero drama Doom Patrol in the UK.

The streamer will launch all 15 episodes of the live-action drama series, which comes from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros Television, on January 2.

Doom Patrol is a re-imagining of a group of characters described as “outcast super heroes” – Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led Dr Niles Caulder, also known as The Chief.

Each member of the Doom Patrol suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities, but also left them scarred and disfigured. The cast includes Brendan Fraser, Matt Bomer, Rita Farr, Diane Guerrero, Joivan Wade, Alan Tudyk and Timothy Dalton.

The drama launched in the US on DC Comics’ OTT service DC Universe in February this year. It is executive produced by Jeremy Carver, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Chris Dingess.

Currently in production on its second season, it is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros International Television Distribution. The second season is set to premiere in 2020 on both DC Universe and HBO Max.

StarzPlay is available on the Apple TV app, Amazon’s Prime Video Channels and Virgin Media.

It also features series such as Mr. Mercedes, Ramy and the recently released DC Comics Batman prequel Pennyworth, along with exclusive Starz originals on the same day they launch in the US, including The Spanish Princess and Vida.
