Starz ups Hirsch to COO

US cablenet Starz has promoted its exec VP and chief marketing officer to chief operating officer.

Jeffrey Hirsch will now take on some of the responsibilities handled by Starz president Glenn Curtis, who announced his retirement last month.

As COO, Hirsch will oversee affiliate sales, marketing, programming operations and research, Starz Distribution and technology and product development.

Prior to joining Starz, he spent 16 years at Time Warner Cable.

The cablenet has also named David Weil as its chief legal officer.
