Starz ups Curtis, post-Myers

US premium cable player Starz has promoted executive VP and chief financial officer Glenn Curtis to president and CFO.

The appointment comes after Billy Myers, president and chief operating officer of the company’s Starz Entertainment and Starz Media divisions, stepped down after a decade last month.

Starz CEO Chris Albrecht has now dropped ‘president’ from his title, while Curtis still reports into him. The latter will take on expanded executive management and operational roles across all Starz businesses.

Curtis was CFO at Starz Encore Group from 1995 to 2002 and then headed to parent company Liberty Media as VP before returning to Starz in 2006.

“Glenn’s counsel has been vital to our growth over the past few years and there is no one better to manage the family of Starz businesses on to greater success,” said Albrecht.

“These are exciting times at Starz, as we continue to create exciting quality original programming for the flagship Starz brand and expand our home video, digital and worldwide distribution businesses,” added Curtis.

The company earlier this week renewed a VoD output deal with AT&T’s IPTV service U-verse.

Starz’s latest instalment of its hit drama franchise Spartacus recently got underway in the US and the firm last month scored a Golden Globe for another of its originals, Boss. It’s currently lining up Da Vinci’s Demons with BBC Worldwide, for which it recently found its lead.
