Starz takes White Boy feature doc

Lionsgate-owned US cablenet Starz has picked up a feature documentary about the notorious story of a purported teen drug lord in Detroit.

White Boy focuses on 17-year-old Richard Wershe Jr who allegedly ran a vicious underground cocaine operation in inner-city Detroit.

The documentary explores the case through interviews with journalists, police, FBI agents and hit men to discover the truth about the man who was subsequently dubbed ‘White Boy Rick.’

The programme is produced by US prodco Transition Studios and is directed by its MD, Shawn Rech. The deal was negotiated by Matt Burke at distribution and production firm Submarine Entertainment. It will premiere on Starz in 2019.
