Starz signs up Vida’s Saracho

Lionsgate-owned US cablenet Starz has agreed a three-year overall deal with the showrunner and executive producer behind its original series Vida.

Tanya Saracho (How to Get Away With Murder, Girls) will develop new projects for the network and continue as showrunner and executive producer on Vida.

The drama, greenlit by Starz last year, is produced by US-based Big Beach Productions and focuses on two Mexican-American sisters from the east side of LA.

Carmi Zlotnik, Starz’s president of programming, described Saracho as a “unique voice” and a “tenacious playwright-turned-TV writer/executive producer who doesn’t pull any punches when bringing these characters – who are not usually seen in mainstream media – to life.”
