Starz is developing a follow-up to its historical miniseries The White Queen without the involvement of UK pubcaster the BBC, the US paynet’s boss has confirmed.

[1]The first series was a coproduction for the two companies but the BBC last year confirmed it would not commission a second season.

Starz CEO Chris Albrecht told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour that the company remained committed to a sequel, without the BBC’s involvement.

“We’re working on looking at story, and no BBC won’t be a part of it,” he said. “We’re looking at the show from a creative point of view. We’re certainly interested in the sequel to White Queen. It did very well for us.”

The follow-up will be based on White Queen author Philippa Gregory’s latest historical novel The White Princess.

Meanwhile, Albrecht said that plans for Starz’s alien saga Incursion were “still alive.”

Incursion was the first show developed [2] under an exclusive two-year deal Starz signed with Spartacus creator Steven S DeKnight in 2011.
