Series such as Outlander will be available on the new service

US cablenet Starz has launched a digital service that will allow subscribers to stream and download unlimited programming to their personal devices.

The offering, costing US$8.99 per month and available online and across Apple and Android devices, offers access to more than 2,400 episodes each month of shows including Outlander, Power and the upcoming American Gods.

Hollywood movies including Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: The Force Awakens will also become available, with an app providing early access to selected series.

Chris Albrecht, Starz CEO, said: “Our programming will now be more widely available to the 20 million broadband-only homes of cord nevers, cord cutters and cord shavers, including millennials and other underserved consumers who need other viable subscription service options.”

Albrecht added that the app “will also help fortify the broadband business of many of our traditional distributors and be even more appealing for inclusion in future video bundles.”

Starz is one of a host of US operators to reveal moves into the OTT market over recent years, along with the likes of HBO, Showtime and CBS.
