Hulu’s Ramy set for StarzPlay

Lionsgate-owned US cablenet Starz has acquired rights to a Hulu comedy series for its global streaming service StarzPlay from distributor Lionsgate Worldwide Television.

Ramy Youssef

Ramy, produced by independent US studio A24, stars comedian Ramy Youssef as a first-generation Egyptian American in a politically divided New Jersey neighbourhood.

The show was co-created by Youssef, Ari Katcher and Ryan Welchcreated, who all serve as executive producers alongside A24’s Jerrod Carmichael, Ravi Nandan and Bridget Bedard. Youssef also writes the series.

Ramy was originally commissioned as a Hulu original. It premiered on the US streamer in April and was recently renewed for a second season. It will make its UK debut on StarzPlay on August 30, becoming available on the platform in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg later in the year.

The show joins a StarzPlay catalogue that includes Killing Eve, The Act, Harlots and the forthcoming Batman prequel Pennyworth.
