Stan Lee reaches for Sky

Pay TV channel Sky1 is working with legendary comic book writer Stan Lee on his first TV drama for the UK alongside the producer of Downton Abbey, Carnival Films.

Lucky Man (10×60′) is based on an original idea by Lee, co-creator of Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk and X-Men, and is being made in collaboration with his entertainment prodco POW! Entertainment.

It follows a cop, played by James Nesbitt (The Missing) from Central London’s notorious Murder Squad, who is given a charm that seems to confer upon the wearer the ability to control luck.

Ordered by Sky1 director Adam MacDonald, Sky’s head of drama Anne Mensah and commissioning editor Cameron Roach, it is due to air in 2016.

In related news, Sky Arts, another UK pay TV channel operated by Sky, has commissioned Lenny Henry’s Got the Blues (3×60′).

The documentary series will see the comedian try to find out why the UK has never produced a single black blues singer of international standing. London-based indie 7Wonder and Henry’s Douglas Road Productions will produce.
