Spoke Studios signs Fyre doc’s King

Event producer Andy King featured in Netflix’s Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened

US prodco Spoke Studios has struck a talent deal with Andy King, who appeared in Netflix documentary Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened.

King is a high-profile event producer who became the break-out star of Netflix’s Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, a 2019 documentary about the fraudulent 2017 music event Fyre Festival.

King had helped set up the festival, not knowing it was a scam, and shared his account in the doc, as well as the extraordinary lengths he was prepared to go to to keep the show on the road, catapulting him to cult and pop-culture icon status.

Under the deal with Wheelhouse Entertainment-owned Spoke Studios, the pair will work on content from original talkshows and podcasts to unscripted series across multiple genres and platforms. A TV project, in which King is the “centrepiece,” is currently being shopped.

Producer Mark Allen Johnson is partnering with King on the deal.

Spoke Studios co-president Joe Weinstock said: “It’s not every day that lightning strikes the zeitgeist as it has with Andy, who has resonated with viewers across the spectrum, but especially with younger demos that strongly identify with his realness, charm and unfiltered delivery.”

Spoke Studios was the first production label to emerge from Wheelhouse Entertainment, the US media firm launched by former ITV America CEO Brent Montgomery at the start of last year.
