Spike, Brosnan prodco go on crusade

US cablenet Spike TV is teaming up with Pierce Brosnan and his prodco Irish DreamTime for a drama event series set in the Middle Ages.

DreamTime will work with Mark Sennet Entertainment, Michael Finch and Academy Award-winning writer David Franzoni (Gladiator) to develop a script for The Crusades.

The story takes place during the Third Crusade, after the fall of Jerusalem to Saladin’s armies, and focuses on two knights who journey from Scotland to the Holy Land for very different reasons.

Brosnan is onboard as executive producer along with Beau St Clair from Irish DreamTime, Mark Sennet, Brian Gary and Craig Sheftell. Finch and Franzoni will executive produce and write the series.

In May, Spike commissioned Tut, its first scripted event series in seven years, for a premiere in 2015. Last month it linked up with US studio Electus to develop a series based on novels by Stephen Frey.

Sharon Levy, executive VP of original series, and Justin Lacob, VP of original series, will oversee The Crusades for Spike.
