Spain’s Filmin orders first original

Spanish SVoD service Filmin has commissioned its first original series, with filming due to begin in Barcelona on March 8.

Doctor Portuondo is an adaptation of Carlo Padial’s novel of the same name, published by Blackie Books in 2017. In the semi-autobiographical novel, a man undergoes therapy with an eccentric Cuban psychiatrist.

Padial is also on board as creator and director of the series, which will be coproduced by Filmin and Spanish prodco La Chica De La Curva. It is scheduled for release on Filmin in October.

Juan Carlos Tous, founder and CEO of Filmin, said: “Our first series beginning production reaffirms Filmin’s desire to constantly evolve, offering the audience something different. This marks Filmin reaching maturity as a platform.”
