Spain seeks Smartest Person

Canada’s Smartest Person Junior

MIPTV: Spanish broadcaster TVE has commissioned a local version of Canadian format Smartest Person.

Mediapro-owned production outfit Globomedia is working on a 10-part first season of Spain’s Smartest Person having picked the format up from Toronto-based producer and distributor Media Headquarters.

The show originated as Canada’s Smartest Person on the country’s public broadcaster CBC, produced by Media Headquarters.

It has run for four seasons in its homeland and already been adapted in 15 international territories, including MTV3 in Finland, El Trece in Argentina and TRT in Turkey.

Inspired by the theory of multiple intelligences, Smartest Person sees competitors battle it out in mind-bending challenges in six categories: musical, physical, social, logical, visual and linguistic.

Canada’s Smartest Person Junior, a spin-off from the original, premiered on CBC in fall 2018 and was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Reality/Competition Series.

The Spanish version is in pre-production and will air later this year.
