Sony hires Sky exec as UK country manager

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has appointed a Sky acquisitions executive as its new country manager for the UK and Ireland.

Holly Comiskey

In the newly created role, Holly Comiskey will be responsible for television and home entertainment distribution and will manage all of SPT’s networks across the region, reporting to Mark Young, regional executive VP of Western Europe. She takes up her role in January.

Comiskey joins SPT after seven years at European satcaster Sky, where she was head of acquisitions for the Sky Cinema service. During her tenure, she helmed negotiations of numerous film output deals, including the company’s first major, multi-territory studio deal with her new employer.

Previously, she served in a variety of programme acquisitions roles at BT TV, television distribution for The Walt Disney Company and home entertainment at NBCUniversal.

“Holly has fantastic experience of working in a platform and channels environment, negotiating complicated rights agreements for premium content,” Young said of her appointment.

Comiskey said she was motivated to join SPT at a time when the firm is integrating its distribution and networks businesses.

“I have enormous respect for the SPT team having worked with them externally for a number of years and look forward to using my broad industry experience to support the team in fully maximising market opportunities in the UK and Ireland,” she said.

The role that was created as part of SPT’s move to a territory management model, announced over the summer, which brought together distribution, home entertainment and networks into a single business unit under a local leader.
