Snoopy, Charlie Brown land at Apple TV+

The new Peanuts content for Apple includes a slate of specials

Apple TV+ has teamed up with WildBrain, Peanuts Worldwide and Lee Mendelson Film Productions to become the home to new and classic Peanuts content.

The expanded partnership between the tech giant and the three companies brings new original shows and specials together with classic Peanuts specials.

The new content includes a slate of specials marking Mother’s Day, Earth Day, New Year’s Eve and going back to school, all of which will be produced by WildBrain’s animation studio.

These join the previously announced The Snoopy Show, a Peanuts 70th anniversary documentary film from Imagine Documentaries and WildBrain, and Peanuts in Space: Secrets of Apollo 10.

Peanuts was among the first children’s and family brands Apple linked up with when it began its push into original content for its streaming service.

Meanwhile, classic Peanut specials It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas will be heading to Apple TV+ later this year.

Each special will be made available to view for free for a few days around Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, respectively.

WildBrain acquired the majority of IP owner Peanuts Worldwide in 2017 and a year later sold a portion of its stake to Sony Music Entertainment.

Peanuts Worldwide is now 41% owned by WildBrain, 39% owned by Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) and 20% owned by the family of Charles M Schulz.

Schulz introduced Peanuts in 1950, when the comic strip debuted in seven newspapers.

The Peanuts specials, along with the rest of the classic Peanuts television library, were produced by the Hollywood animation studio Bill Melendez Productions, with Lee Mendelson Film Productions.
