Sky Vision’s Britannia goes global

Britannia debuted on Sky Atlantic in the UK

International broadcasters and SVoD operators including HBO, Starz Play and iFlix have picked up new Sky original drama Britannia from the European satcaster’s distribution arm Sky Vision.

The series has been picked up in 124 territories including by HBO for multiple countries including Sweden, Norway, Hungary, Denmark, Finland, Poland, the Czech Republic and Spain.

Starz Play has taken the series for its Middle East-focused SVoD service, iFlix for its pan-Africa on demand operation and Foxtel in Australia.

Britannia will also be available on Sky Atlantic in Germany and Italy as well as Amazon in the US.

The show, which is coproduced with Amazon Prime in the US and made its international debut on Sky Atlantic in the UK last week, is produced by Vertigo Films in association with Neal Street Productions and is Vertigo’s first TV series.

Commissioned by Sky’s head of drama Anne Mensah, commissioning editor Cameron Roach and director of Sky1 Adam MacDonald, it will air on Amazon Prime from January 26.

Britannia was created by Jez Butterworth, Tom Butterworth and James Richardson. Set in 43AD, the drama follows the Roman army as it returns to crush the Celtic heart of Britannia, a mysterious land led by warrior women and powerful Druids.
