Sky Vision closes production arm

European satcaster Sky is closing the production arm of its Sky Vision business, with the division’s director of programming and development heading to Sky-backed prodco Znak & Co.

Danny Tipping

Danny Tipping is joining LA- and London-based Znak & Co, which is majority owned by Sky, as head of factual in its UK office.

Tipping’s move to Natalka Znak’s company follows a restructure that sees Sky Vision close its Chorleywood production facility. The company’s post-production facility will move to Sky’s main Osterley campus in London.

Sky Vision was formed after the satcaster acquired Parthenon in 2012, rebranding its distribution arm as Sky Vision and the production unit as Sky Vision Productions. The company has since become a significant force in distribution and has financially backed nine production businesses in the UK and US, including Love Productions, Blast Films and True North.

Under Tipping, Sky Vision Productions has been responsible for delivering a slate of unscripted programming for the likes of Sky Atlantic, Discovery, A+E Networks, National Geographic, Netflix and UKTV.

Sky invested in Znak in 2014. The company has since opened a UK office, and is currently producing primetime Sky1 entertainment format Revolution. Tipping joins to spearhead its expanding international factual offering.

Sky Vision’s sales activities and the other firms in the Sky Vision production company portfolio are unaffected by the restructure.
