Sky sets Larkin project in Motion

UK satcaster Sky has commissioned a one-off documentary on poet Philip Larkin from local indie Icon Films as part of the Passions season of programmes on its Sky Arts channel.

Sir Andrew Motion fronts the documentary about his friend Philip Larkin

Philip Larkin by Sir Andrew Motion (1×60’) follows similar shows such as Noel Coward by Julian Clary and William Blake by Allison Lapper.

It will be fronted by Larkin’s close friend and former poet laureate Sir Andrew Motion and explores the poet’s life and work and his relationship with his home city of Hull. Three decades after his death, Larkin remains one of Britain’s best loved and most celebrated poets.

Bill Hobbins commissioned the film for Sky Arts. Stephen McQuillanis the executive producer for Icon Films.

It is the latest documentary commission by Icon Films, following Restless Legs: Can’t Stop Twitching for Channel 5, Great Hammerhead Invasion for Discovery Channel and Andrew Marr: My Brain & Me for BBC2.
