Sky preps ‘Netflix’ interface

European satcaster Sky is prepping a new set-top box with a carousel-style interface that will allow subscribers to record four shows at once.

SkyQ will offer an experience similar to Netflix and is set to launch within weeks, according to The Telegraph.

The box will enable customers to watch shows via mobile devices around the home and will offer suggestions to viewers based on their previous choices.

The new device is seen as a move by Sky to differentiate it from fellow UK-based pay TV operator BT, which is also in the process of updating its on-screen technology.

In other news, the satcaster is stepping up its investment in digital skills and innovation with the opening of a new technology hub in the north of England.

Based in Leeds, the hub will create 400 skilled jobs and focus on designing and developing Sky’s next generation of websites and apps to support its TV output.
