The children’s arm of European pay TV broadcaster Sky has commissioned a shortform series based on the popular children’s books Aliens Love Underpants.

The series, titled Aliens Love Underpants And… (12×2′), is one of Sky Kids’ first original commissions since launching last year with Lucy Murphy at the helm.

The adaptation of the books by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort is being produced by Endemol Shine Group-owned Tiger Aspect and will be exclusive to Sky and the Sky Kids app when it launches this summer.

Aimed at kids aged between three and six, the shorts will feature characters from the books singing and dancing along to songs on subjects such as cupcakes and spaceships. The songs will be composed by David Schweitzer (Charlie & Lola).

It joins other Sky Kids commissions such as Miniteve, Big Block Singsong and Bear Behaving Badly, which comes from UK producer Darrall Macqueen and will be available later this month.

Meanwhile, the Sky Kids app also features more than 4,500 episodes of licensed shows, including Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol.
