Sky invests in sports app outfit

European satcaster Sky has made its latest foray into fledgling US technology firms by investing in a mobile fan engagement company.

InCrowd has been formed by the team behind Opta, a sports data company, and specialises in developing mobile apps that offer content, match analysis and interactive games to sports fans.

The satcaster’s Sky Sports division will work with InCrowd to explore new ways of delivering the best content to sports fans.

Sky has made an array of investments in tech companies over recent years, including California-based virtual reality producer Jaunt and multi-screen specialist Elemental Technologies.

The company has also invested in programmatic advertising company DataXu and OTT video outfit TV4 Entertainment.
